18U International Tournament
Four nations. One diamond. Elite 18U baseball competition in sunny Escondido, California over the winter break.
The Escondido International 18U Winter Classic brings together top club and travel teams from the United States, Japan, Canada, and Mexico for six days of high-level competition, cultural exchange, and winter baseball in Southern California.
Pool play followed by a single-elimination championship bracket, with all games at 18U age-group standards.
Teams travel from four countries, giving players a rare chance to compete against — and connect with — international peers.
Mild Southern California winter conditions make Escondido an ideal December baseball destination.
The purpose of the Escondido International 18U Winter Classic goes beyond wins and losses. It's built on the foundation of true sports education and cross-cultural exploration — bringing together players from different countries and backgrounds through the shared language of baseball, and giving athletes a rare opportunity to reflect on their own habits, values, and ideas, on and off the field.
Beyond on-field competition, teams take part in post-game Cross-Cultural Presentation Sessions. Each team presents the unique values, mechanics, and etiquette of their home country's baseball culture — from Japan's discipline in sprinting on and off the field, to vocal leadership, equipment care, and field maintenance. Players articulate their own philosophy while learning from the strengths of others.
Once the tournament is established as an international education exchange event, future editions will invite U.S. college coaches and scouts to evaluate athletes — evolving into a recruitment showcase for players seeking collegiate opportunities.
Division: 18U Baseball (High School / Under-18). Open to 18U club, travel, and select teams — players must not turn 19 before the applicable cutoff date (confirm your cutoff date here).
Minimum 9, maximum [set max] players per roster. Rosters lock before the first game.
Pool play (minimum 3 games guaranteed) followed by seeded single-elimination playoffs and a championship final.
Standard 18U rules apply (pitch count limits, mercy rule, etc.) — full rule book distributed upon registration.
The tournament field brings together diverse athletic backgrounds and baseball cultures from across North America and beyond.
Local all-star roster featuring top talent from Southern California.
Recruited and selected from Japan, embodying Japanese baseball etiquette and discipline.
Invited/recruited team representing North America.
Invited/recruited team representing Latin America.
An open slot for future Asian regional entries. Scheduling is currently under evaluation, with official participation expected in future editions.

A 6-team field split into two pools of 3. The top two from each pool advance to a single-elimination playoff, with a consolation game and a third-place game for the semifinal round's non-advancing teams — 11 games in total across pool play and the playoff round.
Team names and pool assignments will be posted here once the application window closes and pool draws are finalized.
